Lot of two. 1) Frisco Mining and Smelting Company. Issued to Jimmy N. Laurence on October 14, 1879 for 1 share. Signed by treasurer William S. Godbe and vice president W. M. Ralin. Little wear. Two folds present. William S. Godbe was born in England then moved to the U.S. and settled in Utah and became a member of the Mormon Church. He became one of the wealthiest men in the territory after establishing a mercantile business. Later in life, Godbe claimed to have a spiritual vision and opened a church in Salt Lake called the Church of Zion. Brigham Young became threatened by Godbe and soon created a mercantile business to compete with Godbe. He filed for bankruptcy, but soon found wealth again as a mining promoter in Nevada and Wyoming. 10” x 8 ¼”. 2) No. 243 from the Frisco Silver Lead Mining Company. Incorporated in Utah. Issued to Martin Johnson on May 22, 1931 for 100 shares. Signed by assistant secretary N.J. Hansen and president L.F. Block. Some wear with two folds present. A staple mark in the upper left corner.
