1879<10C> MS67 PCGS. Greer-101. A date that is always in demand, the 1879 boasts a limited original mintage of just 14,000 business strikes. An exquisite survivor, this ice-white Superb Gem is free of both toning and bothersome striking incompleteness. Both sides exhibit a pleasing mix of prooflike and satiny finish with glowing fields and pleasingly frosted devices. Writing in 1992, Brian Greer (The Complete Guide to Liberty Seated Dimes) describes this variety (Greer-101) as "rare." It is attributable by noticeable repunching on the 9 in the date. The 1 and 8 digits also show repunching. Fortin's Obverse 3, the Fortin-unlisted reverse has a lengthy die crack along the upper periphery.
