<B>1879 $1 PR68 Cameo NGC.</B></I> Records indicate a mintage of 1,100 proof Morgan dollars for 1879, a smaller figure than the number of proof Trade dollars for that year, though much larger than the meager production of proof gold dollars. The specimen offered here ranks among the finest survivors of this second-year issue. The steel-gray fields have strong reflectivity with only one minor, isolated spot of haze to the right of the arrowheads. A splash of cherry-red at the E in ONE adds a touch of color. The devices have solid detail overall, though the hair above the ear is a trifle weak as always, and light, even frost contributes to this coin's distinct contrast. Both sides are carefully preserved, with only two unimportant contact marks in the upper reverse fields.
