1879 $1 PR65 PCGS. A deeply toned Gem with deep violet-gray color at the centers, turning into rich blue and green hues at the edges. The toning somewhat inhibits the reflectivity of the fields and the strike, while bold, provides incomplete details in the hair above Liberty's ear on the obverse. Extremely clean and handsome in its overall appearance. Proof 1879 Dollars show an interesting bit of repunching on the reverse. This is most readily noticeable on the base of the E and R in AMERICA. The R appears to have been patched from a broken punch. This same reverse was used to strike some of the proof Dollars from 1880 as well.

Coin Engraver: George T.
