1879 $1 Metric Dollar, Judd-1617, Pollock-1813, R.4--Obverse Spot Removed--NCS. PR60 Details. A William Barber design with the head of Liberty facing left, wearing a coronet with the word LIBERTY on it. Above the portrait is E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the date is below. The reverse has the composition of the metric alloy in three lines with the weight below, surrounded by an elaborate wreath of corn and cotton, and a cartouche above with DEO EST GLORIA inside. At the margin is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR. Struck in goloid alloy (allegedly) with a reeded edge. These pieces have not undergone metallurgical testing so it is uncertain if they are actually goloid or coin silver. The grayish-tan surfaces display shallow mirrors in the fields, with a few hairlines on each side and a patch of tooling marks near obverse star 4 where someone attempted to remove a small brown spot.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
