Three-Dollar Gold 1878 Mint State 60. <b>A few tiny field hairlines on the obverse, a coin that is frosty and generally well made, including full denticles around the rims. Minor weakness in the strike occurs at the ribbon bow on the reverse that ties the two ends of the wreath. This is typical since the area lies opposite a high point on the obverse: the top three feathers in the headdress. The $3 denomination has Longacre's so-called "Indian Princess" head. Far from attempting to depict any Native American, is one of Longacre's renditions of the Greco-Roman Venus Accroupie profile which had already served him for the gold dollar and double eagle, though with a feathered headdress supposed to emphasize "national character" per Donald Taxay. This unusual denomination was struck from 1854 to 1889, but never in large numbers like the $5 or $20 gold coins.</b> <p align="center">Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
