1878 S$1 Goloid Metric Dollar, Judd-1563, Pollo
1878 S$1 Goloid Metric Dollar, Judd-1563, Pollock-1754, R.(?), PR63 PCGS. Liberty faces left and wears a cap with the legend LIBERTY in incuse letters. The reverse has the alloy composition and weight within a circle of 38 stars. Struck in goloid alloy with a reeded edge. The exact rarity of Judd-1563 is unknown, as only a specific gravity test can distinguish between it and a silver alloy variant, Judd-1564. Judd-1563 and Judd-1564 combined are Rarity-6. A well struck and lightly toned specimen that would surely receive a higher grade were it not for a faint diagonal handling mark west of 16.1 in the reverse legend. Population: 5 in 63, 1 finer (10/03).Ex: Lloyd M. Higgins, M.D. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 1/1988), lot 705, which realized $2,530; earlier, George B. Hatie Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, 8/1983), lot 1632, which realized $2,200. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
