1878-CC 50C MS65 PCGS.
1878-CC 50C MS65 PCGS. Formerly lot 6776 in our September, 1998 Long Beach sale, with applicable portions of the description repeated here: "There are several important similarities between this and the legendary 1878-S half dollar. Both are rare, low mintage coins whose production was prematurely halted so the Mint could devote its full time energies to churning out millions of silver dollars to satisfy Western mining interests' need for an outlet for its silver bullion. Both issues are rare in all grades and extremely so in mint condition. The devices are fully struck with superb, sparkling mint luster. Just a slight accent of pale golden-rose patina is seen over each side. An impressive example of this rare, key date issue in the Seated half dollar series." Two or three other high quality '78-CC Half Dollars have surfaced and have subsequently been certified over the ensuing 5+ years, and we would speculate that the MS66 on the NGC census is the Eliasberg specimen, a coin that realized just shy of $85,000 in 1997. Population: 4 in 65, 0 finer (10/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
