1878-CC 25C MS65 NGC. Briggs 1-A. Struck from a cancelled obverse die (!), evidence of which is visible over Liberty's torso and right (facing) thigh. The reverse die was also used to deliver 1877-CC Quarters of the Briggs 1-A variety, and it is easily identifiable by a diagonal die scratch (as produced) roughly in the center of the shield. The final Carson City Mint Quarter in U.S. coinage history, the 1878-CC is scarcer than the 1876-CC and 1877-CC. A conditionally rare Gem, this coin is richly toned in charcoal shades that yield to golden-blue undertones at direct angles. Traces of the prooflike finish that is often associated with the Briggs 1-A die marriage is noted on the reverse, but, again, only when the surface dips into the light. Razor sharp in definition with no mentionable abrasions. Population: 16 in 65, just 5 finer (11/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
