1878-CC<25C> MS63 NGC. Like the other mints, coinage production in 1878 consisted primarily of the new "Bland Dollars," although other denominations were produced, mostly in limited quantities. The Carson City Mint coined 996,000 quarters in 1878, the second highest mintage denomination. Struck from the so-called "canceled dies" that show a long die scratch from the right knee cap up into the left arm of Liberty. The design features are well brought up, and the lustrous surfaces display a delicate layer of ice-blue, lavender, and golden-brown patina. A few minor handling marks in the fields define the grade. A highly desirable example, and an important opportunity for the advanced Seated Liberty collector.
