1878-CC $20 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1-A. This variety is distinguished by the long, nearly vertical die scratch that runs along the length of Liberty's neck and is one of two varieties for this lower-mintage issue, one that had a significantly small production run than that of the previous year, with a total mintage of just 13,180 pieces. Winter (2001) ranks it "among the scarcest double eagles" from Carson City.
This attractive example, largely yellow-gold with a touch of deeper color at the highpoints, which exhibit minor, yet grade-defining friction. The fields display frosty luster with a hint of granularity, and the devices exhibit the strong strike found on most representatives. A noteworthy piece that lands just outside Condition Census territory. Population: 8 in 58, 7 finer (5/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
