Naturalists immediately informed the Mint that this was a grave design error, and that eagles have a tail with a central feather, and equal numbers of additional feathers on either side, thus must have an odd number of tail feathers. The design was quickly changed to one with seven tailfeathers, although they could have just as easily chosen nine tail feathers. This is one of two similarly graded examples certified by PCGS, with none finer, and with none similarly graded by NGC. Minute doubling of the digits in the date can be seen with close examination, although this is not one of the major varieties for the year, and it is not listed among the Top 100. This example is fully lustrous with frosty surfaces beneath outstanding sea-green, lilac, and gold toning. The reverse has vivid sky blue color. It is absolutely original with exceptional aesthetic appeal. Population: 2 in 67, 0 finer (1/05).
From The Dr. Volker Dube Collection. Lot:7204
