<B>1878 $3 MS64 PCGS.</B></I> David Bowers and Douglas Winter (2005) write of the 1878 gold three dollar: "The typical Mint State coin is in a lower range with a generous quotient of bagmarks, probably from having been tossed around in bags stored in banks." The near-Gem piece presented in this lot is an obvious exception. While a few light scuffs may prevent a higher grade, the surface quality is quite nice. Radiant luster blooms from both sides, each of which is enriched by green-cold color.
