<B>1878 $3 MS64 NGC.</B></I> There is little doubt that this is one of the most plentiful of all three-dollar gold pieces. With a total mintage of 82,304 business strikes, it has the second highest production of the entire series, and few of those entered circulation. This example is sharply struck with highly lustrous satin surfaces and exceptional bright yellow color. A few tiny surfaces marks can be seen on each side, mostly within the hidden areas of the design. Breen mentioned three varieties of business strikes, but failed to provide any further details.
