Featured in this lot is this 1878 First Edition of "Washington and His Generals" by J.T. Headley, The Henneberry Company, Chicago, publishers, Volume I. Joel Tyler Headley was an American historian who served as Secretary of State of New York. Producing many works on various subjects, his writings were among the first to call attention to the Adirondack Mountains as a health resort. He later accepted the solicitations of Horace Greeley and became associate editor of the New York Tribune. This post- Civil War printing is a study of the first U.S. President and His military generals during the American Revolutionary war. This work contains engraved plates featuring portraits of iconic figures including Washington, Benedict Arnold and French General Lafayette. The burgundy cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in nice condition, especially for it's age. Covers exhibit scuffing and fading though gold gilt titling is still bright. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and slight foxing. Measures 5"W x 7.5"L x 1"D.
