1878 1C PR65 Red PCGS. Writing in 1992, Rick Snow identifies two die marriage for the proof 1878 Cent (2,350 pieces produced). The present Gem is attributable by a tiny obverse die dot (as struck) in Liberty's headdress above the ER in the word LIBERTY. The otherwise orange-red color assumes a softer, more golden-orange sheen on the reverse. On the other hand, needle sharp striking definition is evident throughout, as is modest reflectivity in the fields. Some widely scattered obverse carbon is noted more for accuracy than for its outwardly distracting nature. From the Joseph P. Gorrell Collection.
