1878 $10 Ten Dollar, Judd-1580, Pollock-1773, R.6-7, PR66 Red PCGS. A head of Liberty faces left on the obverse with IN GOD WE TRUST above and the date 1878 below. Thirteen stars are arranged around the border with seven left and six right. Liberty wears a cap inscribed LIBERTY and adorned with two ears of wheat. A spread wing eagle dominates the reverse motif. There is an olive branch in the eagle's left (facing) talon, and a bundle of arrows are in the right (facing). UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and TEN DOLLARS are around the periphery, and E PLURIBUS UNUM is stiffly arranged in the upper reverse field. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. An exceptionally important bidding opportunity for the pattern specialist, as several examples of this variety are impounded in museum collections. This particular specimen displays rich reddish-gold luster with some delicate olive tinting. Free of distracting hairlines and contact marks, and also devoid of mentionable carbon flecks.Possibly Ex: Estates of Philip M. Mann, Jr. and Glenn B.
