1878 $1 Morgan Dollar, Judd-1565, Pollock-1732, High R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. The obverse is very similar to the issued Morgan dollar, but the 18 in the date is repunched south, and the M initial is raised. The reverse die is that used for Judd-1554. A large eagle stands with raised head and outstretched wings. Both sides have the legend E PLURIBUS UNUM, neither side has IN GOD WE TRUST. Struck in copper with a reeded edge, the only Judd number for this muled die pair. Rich salmon-pink with glimpses of gunmetal-blue. The eagle is well struck, while occasional curls within the portrait lack absolute detail. Unabraded with minimal carbon, and housed in an old green label holder. PCGS and NGC combined have certified only three examples of this extremely rare pattern.
Ex: E. Maris Collection; Garrett Collection, Part II (Bowers and Ruddy, 3/80), lot 1053; Jascha Heifetz Collection (Superior, 10/89), lot 3323, which realized $17,050.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
