1877 T$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. Although Mint delivery recor
1877 T$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. Although Mint delivery records indicate a production of just 510 proof Trade dollars in 1877, it is generally believed today that the actual mintage was 710 coins. According to Mint records, there were 400 proofs and 200 business strikes produced during the month of February. Then, beginning in March, monthly totals of business strikes ranged from 13,000 coins to 594,000 coins. It seems highly unlikely that the Mint would have set up the presses to coin just 200 business strikes that February. For this reason, most numismatists today believe that those 200 coins were additional proof examples, resulting in an actual proof mintage of 710 coins.
This is one of only a few Cameo-designated proof 1877 Trade dollars that we can recall handling. Unlike most extant specimens (which are fully brilliant in finish), this coin displays pleasing field-to-device contrast with the latter being well frosted and sharply detailed. The otherwise golden iridescence assumes a silver cast through the center of the reverse. Population: 10 in 64 Cameo, 4 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
