1877 T$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. A quick glance at the 2003 Guide Book might suggest that the 1877 is the rarest proof in the 1873-1883 Trade Dollar series. After all, the reported mintage of 510 pieces is smaller than that of all other issues in this date run. This is not, however, the case, and Breen and Bowers, among others, suggest that a total of 510 pieces produced might be on the low side. The authors estimate that 710 proof Trade Dollars were produced this year, the additional 200 pieces coming from a February delivery made prior to the Mint's start of business strike production. This is only the second Cameo-designated proof 1877 Trade Dollar that we can recall handling. Unlike most extant specimens (which are fully brilliant in finish), this coin displays pleasing field-to-device contrast with the latter being well frosted and sharply detailed. The otherwise golden iridescence assumes a silver cast through the center of the reverse. One of the two finest examples designated Cameo at PCGS (1/03).From an East Coast cabinet. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
