1877-S 25C MS68 NGC. 1876 and 1877 were the banner yea
1877-S<25C> MS68 NGC. 1876 and 1877 were the banner years for Seated quarter production. Even the Carson City Mint had large mintages during those two years. The spigot turned off early in 1878, however, since the mints were obligated to strike silver dollars in unprecedented quantities. The present lustrous Superb Gem is bathed in medium aqua, rose-red, and lemon-gold tones. Contact of any relevance is nearly absent, and a few obverse stars are the only areas not fully struck. Although available in circulated grades, the 1877-S is scarcer than expected in Mint State. It becomes rare above MS65. Only a combined 13 pieces between NGC and PCGS are in MS66 and MS67 grades. This is the single finest certified 1877-S quarter (7/06).
