1877 G$1 MS67 PCGS. The year 1877 is a special one in the annals of U.S. numismatics, because so many issues in various series bearing this date are key coins: the Indian cent, three cent nickel, Shield five cent nickel, Indian Head eagle. The 1877 gold dollar is equally rare, with only 3,900 business strikes plus 20 proofs manufactured. Like many of the late-series gold dollars, however, astute collectors who foresaw the series' end set aside considerable numbers of survivors. The present specimen offers lustrous yellow-gold surfaces that feature more than a hint of prooflikeness, even if unrecognized on the holder. A small area of reddish-copper is noted at 6 o'clock on the obverse, but the coin is otherwise consistent in its coloration. Both sides are remarkably abrasion-free. Some softness from apparent die crumbling is noted at the N in UNITED and the C in AMERICA. The reverse is slightly rotated, about 15 degrees counterclockwise. Population: 15 in 67, 2 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
