1877 G$1 MS66 PCGS.<p>Modest hints of reflectivity are seen in the fields on both sides of this high end Gem, but this coin does not appear to be one of the deceptive first strikes that some collectors have mistaken for proofs. The color is mostly orange-gold in shade, but flickers of copper tinted iridescence hug the left obverse periphery and the upper left reverse periphery. Neither the striking quality nor the surface preservation are worthy of criticism. The 1877 has a tantalizingly low mintage of 3,900 business strikes. Although anything but common in an absolute sense, this issue is not as rare as either the 1876 or the 1878, and we are aware of a small group of MS66 representatives in today's hobby. Another of these premium quality Gems appeared as lot 7546 in our May 2000 Central States Signature Sale. That coin was also certified by PCGS, and it was once the property of Harry W. Bass, Jr. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
