VAN HELSING (2004) - Framed Hand-Painted Castle Dracula Matte Painting Concept Artwork - Framed concept artwork for a matte painting of Castle Dracula from the production of Stephen Sommers' Van Helsing. In the climactic battle, Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) took on Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) and his minions in his icy mountain top castle. The castle was represented through a combination of live-action photography and digital matte paintings created to expand its ghastly scale

This concept painting of the dark, misty surroundings outside the castle was created by effects company Illusion Arts. It is rendered in mixed media and taped to wood backing inside a custom wooden frame. The right side of the frame is etched "1075" and "3" with additional stray pieces of tape along the edges. The frame exhibits paint flaking, nicking, and blue tape residue, possibly from use against a blue screen, while the tape holding the painting in place is loosening from age. Dimensions: 34.25" x 44.5" x 1.5" (87 cm x 113 cm x 4 cm)

Sold without copyright; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.

Estimate: $4,000 - 8,000
