1877-CC<T$1> MS63 PCGS. The whole purpose of the trade dollar was to compete with Spanish dollars for trade in the Orient. Given their Western United States locale, it can be assumed that most of the Carson City and San Francisco Mint trade dollars actually were exported. Today, coins from these two facilities are often found with chopmarks, indicating that they served their intended purpose. Few examples remained in the United States, and survival of Mint State coins was strictly a matter of chance. With few exceptions, these coins were not purposely saved by contemporary collectors.
A pleasing example of this scarce variety, with few better quality Mint State examples known. The obverse has pleasing silvery-gray color with peripheral gold and pale blue toning while the reverse is essentially brilliant with splashes of gold color only. This is a highly desirable specimen that is seldom found any finer. Population: 21 in 63, 8 finer (4/06).
