1877-CC T$1 MS62 NGC. CC-mint Trade Dollar production remained low through 1877--just 534,000 pieces were delivered with this date and mintmark combination. Furthermore, upward of 10,000 examples may have been melted as part of the 44,148 undistributed Trade Dollars destroyed under federal authority on July 19, 1878. The majority of extant Mint State '77-CC Trade Dollars grade no finer than MS62. One should not, however, assume that this issue is common in BU. An Uncirculated 1877-CC Trade Dollar of any quality is a significant find in today's market, and one that should not be allowed to slip past the specialist. This is a pleasingly lustrous coin for the assigned grade with sharp striking definition that is also praiseworthy for the type. Fascinating clashmarks (as produced) are seen in the reverse field around much of the eagle. It seems that the entire obverse design was clashed into the reverse die and, while Mint employees polished away some of these features, they did not waste much effort polishing the field areas around the eagle's head and below the left (facing) wing. Variegated pastel tinged iridescence dances across both sides. Population: 7 in 62, 14 finer (11/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
