<B>1877-CC $20 AU58 NGC.</B></I> This is the first year of the new design modification with the denomination entirely spelled out, known as Type Three, and examples from Carson City are at once rare and desirable. The mintage was a respectable 42,565 coins and many examples survive in the VF to AU grades, but nearly all have heavy abrasions from years spent in canvas bags with hundreds of other pieces. Each time a bag was moved, the individual coins would received additional abrasions. This example, a splendid near-Mint piece, has prooflike surfaces and sharp design features with essentially mark free surfaces.
