<B>1877-CC $20 AU53 PCGS.</B></I> This 1877-CC double eagle stands out among similarly graded examples in that the surfaces display fewer distracting abrasions than usual. As with other dates in this series, large quantities of twenties were exported overseas to facilitate international trade. The methods used to transport these large gold pieces centered more on convenience than preservation of the coins. Soft gold, heavy coins, haphazard handling, and long voyages translate into coins with heavily abraded surfaces. For collectors today, this means that finding an 1877-CC twenty with clean fields is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. The present example is one such piece.
