1877 50C Morgan Half Dollar, Judd-1513, Pollock-1
1877<50C> Morgan Half Dollar, Judd-1513, Pollock-1677, Low R.7, PR65 Brown PCGS. This popular George Morgan design features the reduced head from the adopted Morgan dollar from the next year, surrounded by a circle of beads, outside of which is E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date below. On the reverse is the defiant eagle (used later on the Schoolgirl dollar of 1879 and the adopted Sesquicentennial quarter eagle of 1926), surrounded by a circle of beads, outside of which is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA HALF DOLLAR. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. We are uncertain of the pedigree of this particular specimen. Saul Teichman has traced as few as nine and as many as eleven examples of this pattern. The surfaces are mostly brown with lovely underlying blue and red iridescence, the fields show confirmed reflectivity but are somewhat muted from the overlay of patina.
