1877 3CN PR67 Cameo NGC. Breen 2437. Walter Breen (1988) calls this an 1877/6 overdate. Kevin Flynn and Edward Fletcher (1999), however, write that Breen thought that the die scratch on the lower left side of the final 7 in the date was a 6. They contend that: "The position of this line does not match the overlay of where a 6 would be." In any event, the 1877 proof-only issue, with a mintage of 510 or so pieces, is the key to the three cent nickel series. This PR67 Cameo example displays bright untoned surfaces that exhibit an outstanding motif-field contrast. The design elements are boldly impressed, including full definition in the lines of the III. Both faces are immaculately preserved. Census: 13 in 67 Cameo, 1 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
