1877 20C PR64 PCGS. The Twenty Cent piece had become so unpopular with the public by the summer of 1876 that a bill was introduced in Congress in July that, if passed, would revoke the Mint's authority to produce this denomination. Although the bill did not become law until May 2, 1878, business strike production ceased before the start of calendar year 1877. Limited numbers of proofs, however, were struck in both 1877 and 1878. Despite the fact that we are offering multiple examples in this sale, the 1877 is an elusive coin in all grades. This is an attractive, original near-Gem with mottled steel-gray toning on the reverse and lighter, olive-gray shadings around the obverse periphery. Warmer undertones are seen at direct angles, particularly on the obverse, and both sides are sharply struck with no outwardly distracting blemishes. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
