1877 $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Only 1,632 pieces were struck of the 1877 Quarter Eagle. An impressively low mintage for certain, but for some reason there are a relatively large number of examples that have survived. In Mint State, however, there are very few pieces known. Only two other MS61 coins have been certified by NGC with seven finer (3/02). This piece shows bright prooflike fields, as always seen, and rich reddish patina, also a common occurrence on the uncommonly encountered high grade survivors of this issue. Well struck, the grade is accounted for by the presence of a couple of small abrasions on Liberty's cheek. There is also an identifying discolored planchet flake out of the reverse field just below the eagle's left (facing) wing. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
