1877<1C> PR66 Red and Brown Cameo NGC. The Indian cent was struck every year for a half century, between 1859 and 1909. Among all dates produced, only the 1877 and 1909-S have mintages less than 1 million pieces. Given the contemporary popularity of the 1909-S VDB cent, it is not surprising that the 1909-S was saved in greater numbers than the 1877. Little consideration was given to the 1877 by collectors of the day, who concentrated on Large cents and Washington pieces instead of their pocket change. Most remaining 1877 cents are well worn, which fuels demand for quality proofs. This pinpoint-sharp Premium Gem offers consistent honey-gold surfaces, and approaches a full Red designation. A thin mark and a tiny spot on the forehead are all that limits the grade.
