1877 1C PR66 Red PCGS. While more available than dates in the 1860s, the 1877 is still difficult to locate in the better proof grades. Of course, there is considerable date pressure on the proofs from this year because of the scarcity of Mint State business strikes. Of interest to specialists is the fact that all proofs of this date were struck from the "Bulged T" reverse. This reverse was first used in 1872 and was also used to strike many of the proof issues between that date and 1877. The right pennant of the T in CENT is in much higher relief than the other parts of the letter. This feature has no effect on the value of the coin, but is mentioned only as a diagnostic feature. The fields are deeply mirrored and each side has even red coloration. Virtually defect-free surfaces. Population: 11 in 66, 2 finer (1/03). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
