1877 1C PR66 Red PCGS. This is a date in the Indian Cent series that excites bidders regardless of the level of preservation of the example in question. Of course, the higher the grade, the more demand from date collectors. As specialists know, most high grade 1877 Cents are survivors of the approximately 900-piece proof delivery. These coins are not the rarest specimen strikes of this type, but they never fail to perform strongly at auction due to the paucity of fully lustrous Mint State examples in today's market. Exquisitely preserved, this cherry-red Gem retains full, undiminished mint luster. As one should expect for proof production methods, every feature is at very least sharply struck, and some are fully so. There are no outwardly distracting blemishes, and the eye appeal alone would seem to warrant an even higher grade. Accuracy, however, compels us to mention two well concealed swirls of variegated color on the reverse: along the right side of the T in CENT and within the lower right wreath. Still, a coin that is sure to incite significant competition between bidders when it crosses the auction block. Population: 11 in 66 Red, with a mere two finer (1/03).From the Colburn Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
