1877 1C PR66 Red NGC. The silky-smooth sheen on both sides of this important 1877 Cent allows full appreciation of the rich reddish-orange luster and original olive tinted undertones. Both sides display razor sharp striking definition throughout, and the surfaces are expectantly free of distracting carbon for the PR66 level of preservation. There are a few lumps (as struck) from rust pits on Liberty's neck--a feature that Snow (1992) says is common to many survivors of this issue. The 1877 is not appreciably rarer than any of the other proof Indian Cents from this decade. As specialists know, however, this issue is under extreme collector pressure due to the key date status of the business strike 1877 Cent. Expect strong bidder competition for this premium quality Gem from the Gorrell Collection, especially since it is one of only two PR66 Red specimens at NGC. There is just one coin finer (10/02).From the Joseph P. Gorrell Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
