1877 1C MS66 Red and Brown NGC. While we typically offer numerous high grade examples of the proof 1877 Indian Cent in each of our Signature Sales, it is a rare bidding opportunity for Heritage clients to have multiple Gem quality business strikes from which to choose. The sharp striking that characterizes all devices of this lovely example is free of criticism. Virtually full mint luster blankets smooth surfaces in reddish-orange shades that lighten to orange-gold tinting in the center of the obverse. There is only a minimal amount of fading to olive-brown color. Both sides display a pleasing satiny sheen that is devoid of distracting blemishes. The 1877 is the most widely publicized rarity in the Indian Head Cent series of 1859-1909. Although the final-year 1909-S was produced in fewer numbers, the 1877 was not saved in as great a quantity. The present sale notwithstanding, Gems must be considered rare, particularly if some of the original luster is evident. Population: 7 in 66 Red and Brown, none are finer with this color designation (11/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
