1877 1C MS66 Red and Brown NGC. In our catalog for the January 2003 sale of the Joseph P. Gorrell Collection of Flying Eagle and Indian Cents, Rick Snow opines that the Mint's delivery of 852,500 Cents in 1877 may have included some coins dated 1876. It is also interesting to note that the Philadelphia Mint issued some 10 million Cents in 1877. The majority of these coins had been delivered in earlier years and, after making their way back to the Mint from bank stockpiles, were simply re-issued. (Such examples were not included as part of the mintage figures for newly struck coins.) With so many Cents to re-issue, it is little wonder that the Mint ceased production of new coins early in 1877. Attractive and fully lustrous, this cherry-red Gem displays a smooth sheen from rim to rim. We are unable to find any distracting blemishes, be they carbon flecks or abrasions, and the strike is sharp in all but one or two isolated areas. The unflagging popularity and genuine condition rarity of this date virtually assures that this lovely Gem will see spirited bidding when it crosses the auction block in Long Beach. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
