1877 1C MS64 Red PCGS. The extensive meltings of t 1877[1C] MS64 Red PCGS.
1877<1C> MS64 Red PCGS. The extensive meltings of the old "big coppers" provided a supply of the base metal that lasted for almost 20 years. However, by 1877 the mint's copper supply dwindled to the point that only 852,500 cents were struck that year, making this the key date in the Indian cent series. Examples are scarce in all grades of Uncirculated and especially so with full red luster. This piece displays lovely orange coloration with a streaky overlay of darker reddish patina on the obverse. Well, but not completely struck up, the surfaces are clean and show only the slightest specks of carbon (visible only with a magnifier). Population: 39 in 64, 26 finer (8/05).
