1877<$10> VF35 PCGS. Appealing olive-gold toning with blushes of pale lilac. Flashes of prooflike brilliance can be seen in the protected areas of the designs. The 1877 ranks as one of the rarest Liberty Head eagles, a designation which is probably due almost entirely to the scant mintage of 797 business strikes. Survivors are seldom available in any grade, and it's worth noting that David Akers was able to account for auction appearances of 1877s in only about 10% of the major sales that he studied between the 1940s and 1970s, inclusive. It is needless to point out that these will never become any less rare, and that only a small and elite cadre of numismatists will ever be able to acquire an example.
