1876<G$1> PR63 PCGS. As an issue, the 1876 is the rarest gold dollar delivered after 1875. Only 3,200 business strikes were delivered, and the proof mintage amounted to a paltry 45 coins. While the latter mintage is on the high side for a gold dollar from this era (it is likely that the Mint anticipated increased sales due to the U.S. Centennial), the proof 1876 is rare today with perhaps only 22 examples extant. This is an attractive Choice specimen with lovely orange-gold color. The finish is brilliant with great depth of reflectivity seen in the fields. Fully impressed with a few wispy blemishes in and around the centers that seem to account for the PR63 designation. Population: 3 in 63, 11 finer (8/06).
