1876-CC 25C MS65 NGC. The reverse die used to strike this coin is unlisted in the 1991 book The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters by Larry Briggs. The first C in the mintmark is over the upper serif of the R in QUAR while the second C is over the right side of that letter. With a sizable (by Carson City Mint standards) original mintage of 4.9 million pieces, it is little wonder that the 1876-CC was struck from a few die marriages that have yet to be adequately documented. Be that as it may, the desirability of the present coin is mostly due to its status as a Gem quality type candidate. Both sides are satiny in sheen with hints of brightness in the fields and bold-to-sharp striking detail throughout. Silver-white in sheen with no distracting abrasions to report and a few spindly die cracks (as struck) around the peripheries.
