<B>1876-CC $20 AU58 ICG.</B></I> The 1876-CC saw a record mintage for a CC-mint Type Two (or other type) double eagle, those with TWENTY D. in the denomination, as a result of peak outflows of gold for coinage in Nevada during the salad days of the Comstock Lode. A total of 138,441 double eagles were produced during this U.S. Centennial year, making the issue a doubly perennial favorite. What a pity the Mint chose not to issue a commemorative gold double eagle for the Bicentennial in 1976!
