1876-CC<$20> AU53 PCGS. This was a banner year for the production of double eagles at the Carson City Mint, and the mintage of 138,441 coins set a record that would not be broken. The total was the highest mintage of any double eagle from this facility. Despite the record mintage, this is not the most common date of the series. Although a number of AU and Mint State coins have returned from overseas holdings, most are low in eye appeal with little desirability. Like so many of its peers, this example has moderately abraded surfaces, yet both sides exhibit considerable luster with brilliant green-gold color. The high points have traces of deep olive toning. In a green label PCGS holder.
