1876-CC $10 Liberty
1876-CC. NGC AU Details, improperly cleaned. We note some burnishing. Well struck and lightly toned. Only 4,696 struck. Of the perhaps 100 examples believed to have survived, the usually found grade is VF, and even such pieces are rarely seen. "A definite sleeper," wrote John J. Ford, Jr., in his description of a VF example (also with obverse scratch) in the Cicero Collection sold by New Netherlands in 1960. Today, many years later, collectors are still searching examples in any grade.

On the obverse the logotype is deeply punched in the die, and low, significantly closer to the dentils than to the neck truncation. The 6 in the date logotype on this (and other eagles of the year) is particularly well formed, with the ball being inset from the right border and placed with sufficient space above the curve below.

On the reverse the mintmark is widely spaced. The lower left part of the ribbon scroll is broken possibly due to die lapping (PCGS # 8675) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.
