1876<50C> PR65 Cameo PCGS. Type One Reverse. Splashes of golden-brown, apple-green, and ruby patination endow this beautiful Seated Gem. Yes, this is the variety of the proof 1876 with the upper curve of an S mintmark misplaced beneath Liberty's neck. This variety is certainly unusual, although it is not a formidable rarity, since the mintages of proofs increased in 1876. This was partly due to the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, where the Mint had a display and sold proofs.
From The Stephen Stokely #1 PCGS Registry Set of Proof Seated Half Dollars.
