1876[$20] PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS.
1876<$20> PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. Ex: Bass. Final year of the Type Two design, this year had an increased mintage over previous years--all the way to 45 pieces! In the Bass catalog, Bowers speculates that this was "perhaps in anticipation that visitors to the Centennial Exhibition of American Independence held in nearby Fairmount Park would sally over to the Philadelphia Mint." If they did so, no significantly higher numbers were saved when compared to the numbers believed to have survived from other years. Only eight to 10 separate coins are believed known today (Walter Breen's estimate). Very rarely offered at public auction, when an 1876 does appear it is generally not as well preserved or have the eye appeal of this coin. The fields on each side go "black" with illimitable reflectivity, and the devices are heavily frosted, giving the coin a profound cameo appearance. Lightly hairlined with no obvious or distracting surface contact marks. To date (7/04), this is the only Deep Cameo proof certified by PCGS in any grade.
Ex: Bass II (Bowers and Merena, 10/99), lot 1850, where it brought $48,300.
From The Greenwich Collection, Part Two.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
