1876 $1 Sailor Head Dollar, Judd-1463,
1876 $1 Sailor Head Dollar, Judd-1463, Pollock-1613, R.6-7, PR66 Red and Brown PCGS. William Barber's Sailor Head motif dominates the obverse. The coronet is inscribed LIBERTY. The periphery includes IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, and 13 stars. The reverse displays an open laurel wreath with ONE DOLLAR in the center, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM across the border. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. As stated in our 2007 FUN Auction, when we offered a Brown example of this design type: "For most collectors, Judd-1463 provides the only means to obtain an example from this die pair, since Judd-1463a is unique, and only two examples of Judd-1462 were struck. According to uspatterns.com, 'about a half dozen' Judd-1463 pieces exist."
Approximately 30-40% of the original mint red remains on each side with light brown and blue over the remaining areas. The fields are flashy and bright with little or none of the reflectivity subdued by the light brown patina. A superlative example of this scarce pattern.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
