1875 T$1 PR64 PCGS. Type I Obverse / Type II Reverse. Breen-5789. Only about 38% of the proof Trade Dollars delivered in 1875 are believed to be of this hub variety. Conventional wisdom has it that 700 proofs were produced this year. On the other hand, the total could be 900 coins, as the 200 "business strikes" delivered in April of this year may have been proofs. By this year, the Mint's sale of proof Trade Dollars had finally received a warm reception from the numismatic community, with the result that the 1875 is considerable more common the either the 1873 or the 1874. Of course, the rarity of the business strike 1875 places added date collector pressure on attractive proofs such as the present near-Gem. This lightly patinated, silver-gray example is brilliant in the fields with minimal frosting on the devices. The otherwise razor sharp strike wanes ever so slightly toward the upper obverse border--a common feature of many Type One Obverse / Type Two Reverse proofs of this year. A smooth looking coin. From the Andy Geosits Collection of Trade Dollars. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
