1875 T$1 MS62 NGC. Type Two Reverse. Fully lustro
1875<T$1> MS62 NGC. Type Two Reverse. Fully lustrous. The obverse has pale champagne toning. The reverse is brilliant. The strike is typical for the issue with some areas of softness noted at Liberty's head and the eagle's left claw. Two different designs were used to make the reverse dies for the 1875 issue. On "Type I" examples, there is a berry on the olive sprig directly beneath the eagle's left claw (viewer's right), while on "Type II" examples, there is no berry. Although these differences were first pointed out to the numismatic community by Elliot Landau in 1952, the varieties didn't really catch the attention of the public until Walter Breen's Encyclopedia appeared in 1988, and ever since that time, collectors have been eagerly pursuing examples of both types.
